Cybersecurity Framework Law: historic milestone for national legislation

Law No. 21,663, known as the Cybersecurity Framework Law, reinforces the protection and resilience of networks and systems in Chile, in line with international standards.

Law No. 21,663, enacted on April 8, 2024 and known as the Cybersecurity Framework Law, brings Chile up to the highest international standards in this area. This regulation guarantees the protection and resilience of the country’s computer networks and systems.

The purpose of the law is to establish a solid institutional framework, together with the general principles and regulations necessary to effectively structure, regulate and coordinate cybersecurity actions, both among state agencies and in their interaction with private individuals.

In addition, it defines the minimum requirements to prevent, contain, manage and respond to cybersecurity incidents, establishes clear control and supervision mechanisms, and determines the basis for liability for possible breaches.
